Take a cold shower!

April 5, 2024Juan Torrontegui

For many of us, a cold shower in winter is practically unthinkable; Instead, it is one of the healthiest and most affordable things we can do to benefit our good health.
In fact, there is a forgotten therapy, "cold water therapy" used by pioneering naturopaths of the late 1800s, Friedhelm Kirchfeld and Wade Boyle. His therapies were reflected in his book "Nature Doctors: Pioneers in Naturopathic Medicine."

Who should avoid this therapy?

  • The sick and people with hypothermia, people who suffer from very cold.
  • Pregnant women.
  • Women during menstruation.

How to shower?

  1. It starts with a hot shower for 2 minutes, our body turns red as the body fluids move outward.
  2. We close the hot tap and turn on the cold one . We keep it on for another 2 minutes. We rub the skin vigorously with our hands and observe how the skin once again adopts a lighter color because the blood now moves inward, concentrating on the vital organs of the body.
  3. We repeat this action alternating HOT-COLD showers, 2 times and finish with cold water.
  4. Coming out of the shower, we quickly dressed. The blood concentrated inside will be expelled little by little towards the extremities. Our muscles relax, our body becomes toned and we warm up.

Other benefits of cold water, snow and the sea in winter

The Kneipp therapy of walking barefoot in the snow also prevents colds in winter; It gives us warmth and stimulates the immune system.
For those who are fortunate enough to live next to the sea, they should take advantage of it by bathing every day, even in winter, as it provides us with significant amounts of iodine, rejuvenates us and gives us warmth.
