Of all the minerals we have in our body, potassium is the third most abundant. Among its functions are:
- Promote nervous stimuli.
- Facilitate muscle contraction.
- Regulate heart rate and blood pressure.
- Control the internal fluid of the cells and the external sodium. These two minerals balance body fluids.
Dosage : Generally around 3 grams a day are recommended although it has been proven that up to 18 grams there are no side effects such as muscle fatigue or irregular heartbeat. It is recommended to use potassium with food to avoid stomach irritation.
Contraindication : Those who are taking ACE inhibitors (such as enalapril) for hypertension or angina, and those who have a kidney problem.
