Dangers of a chemical dye
For thousands of years women, especially, have added color to their hair to try to maintain their youthful appearance. Although since ancient times the method has always been based on dyes obtained from nature, advances in the chemical industry have meant that those natural dyes have been abandoned. Dyes made with chemical substances are much more effective when it comes to coloring hair, but few women know how harmful some of their components can be. Since the skin is an organ that absorbs everything that is applied to it, many substances contained in dyes can pass into the blood and cause problems in the body. In Europe, 60% of women and 10% of men dye their hair 6 to 8 times a year. The components are mainly derived from petroleum and when applied to the hair, the cuticle breaks, which can lead to other problems. Of the total ingredients in a conventional dye, 90% are toxic.
Among them we find:
- Lead acetate: it is added to dyes to cover gray hair and causes neuronal problems.
- Ammonia: related to neuronal damage
- Paraphenylediamine (PPD) is a carcinogenic substance and dyes containing it are prohibited in many countries of the European Union.
- Hydrogen peroxide: it is a bleach and very toxic mixed with PPD.
- Resorcinol: can cause hormonal imbalances.
These chemicals can cause health problems such as allergic reactions, respiratory problems, burns, inflammation of the eyelids and hormonal alterations, among others. If you do not want to continue accumulating toxicity in the body, it is important that you replace conventional dye, including some “natural” one, and that you use a 100% vegetable and ecological dye. This is the only product you should use on your head.
